Way Back Home is an ongoing 4-month communication campaign initiated by a team of four, with the aim to reduce stigma around persons with dementia through social media and events that educate and provide interaction opportunities.

From my personal experience, I have volunteered with a couple of different beneficiaries previously through my CCA in NTU Welfare Services Club but dementia was never one that crossed my mind. It was the same for other NTU students whom the WBH team conducted a focus group with. We are all indifferent because we think that we are too young to be concerned about an illness that only comes with old age. While it is true that the risks of getting dementia is higher from the age of 65, this is an issue which the WBH team hopes to bring to the minds of university students like us because the prevalence of dementia in Singaporeans have been increasing. Our parents could be the ones getting dementia... and being able to identify the symptoms, understand and interact with persons with dementia is key.

Right now, we have conducted our primary research, analysed our findings, developed strategies and are in the midst of planning for our offline activations and social media content calendar. As the Community Manager, I am in charge of creating engaging content that will be posted on our social media pages, as well as the collaterals for our events. Apart from that, I would be working with my other team mates on the planning and execution of the upcoming events.

More is yet to come. This is an exciting campaign and I look forward to it.
