background

Illegal wildlife trade is rampant across Asia, even in Singapore. Singapore is a fast port for such trade because officials can’t see products in sealed ports and the sheer volume of traffic going through it. The market is shifting to digital, where hidden groups are engaging in a closed exchange of illegal wildlife/products. There are advanced algorithms set up to detect chatter, however, code names for the various products change regularly. There is crucial need for human intervention.

Singapore has the lowest/least harsh penalties for conviction of illegal wildlife trade.

With the support of a volunteer network, WWF can identify potential traders & highlight them to the authorities.
